Community Development is not Enough
THE founding fathers of Indonesia has declared any countries goals to serve for its citizens. Any goals to become a truly government is written at the Preamble of Indonesian constitutional (Undang- Undang Dasar 1945 or UUD 1945) –by realizing common prosperity, educating national life, protecting the whole nation and fatherland of Indonesia, and following world order. The derivation of those goals is poverty alleviation. The strategic policy to reduce poverty is community development. It is a structured intervention that gives communities greater control over the conditions that affect their lives. Community development has to look both ways: not only at how the community is working at the grass roots, but also at how responsive key institutions are to the needs of local communities. Community development is not enough refers to constraint of the location. Directorate General of Social Empower, Department of Social Affairs, tried to achieve “Kecamatan as Center of Growth”. To alleviate poverty and doing community development, the government couldn’t do alone.
